The final saturday in march , and the final saturday of a very congested month of fixtures and training saw the mighty Gothenburg Celtic FC take on a mystery team thrown together by Elisedal FC. Original opponents La Familja had phoned in sick with bad excuses claiming to be ridden with terminall ilnesses, limb loss and generally infection and contagious diseases...well in all honesty it was a fear of a humiliation that scared off the shaken and stricken 2 time losing finalists from being defeated yet again in a another unsucsesul attempt to win anything in the presence of the fearsome hoops. instead the kind hearted lads from across the city offered to help out and stand on the opposing side of a fiery arena. The short notice however was a disdvantage for the Mystery XI who only at the last minute got together 11 in a squad to make it happen. The mystery team consisted of 3 of the Ents from Lord of the rings, Michael Jordens big brother , Robert wadlow, Hightower from Police academy and the guy in "Police Squad" that you only ever see the bottom half of but to name a few. The boys set up their gameplan in the dressing room after an "illustrative" and perhaps cautious teamtalk in which the phrase "Squares and Triangles, Squares and Triangles" could be heard all the way to the oppositions changin room. extra emphasis on words lke "Urgency" and "Passes" were also mentioned as the boys drilled themselves for what may be the final full on friendly of the season. In the abscence of Tomas Ravelli the 2nd, the first troublesome issue was the unfilled vacancy of the number 1 spot. Julien and Alvin had to fight 10 rounds before a winner was decided.... Julien won the spot and Alvin agreed to handover the gloves. The idea was to take 1 half each as a fair compromise. The boys lined up in their starting positions snarling like hungry hyenas as the ball was placed on the centre spot. The tension of "were tired of being "dicked" even though these are only training games was felt in the stands by the crowds of blonde cheerleaders. the whistle went and they were off....this week the celts boasted all of 4 subs all eager and bursting for action. Fraek Van Damme made his comeback this week too after an extended abscence and slotted straight into central defence beside his brother in arms sebastian, Brendan left back and robbie right back. Midfield saw Larsson thrown out on the left with roddie and alvarsson central and Armani pink shoes on the right. Up top The 2 Adrians set out on their search for glory. Reinfroecments included: The Fonze, Nemo and Alvin the terminator. The wind was blowing hard so it was difficult to get a foothold on the game...both teams struggling to make a big impression in the early stages. as the minutes rolled on the hoops began to own more an more possession however in vain as the final third produced few basket shots past the enormous defence, who had their "heads in the clouds" tee hee.. Changes were made the pack was reshuffled and Fonze , Nemo and Alvin the termiator were introduced..Although the hoops did have most of the play it didnt come to anything. The ever industrious Larsson worked hard and covered 4 marathon distances in his hunger for ball, Kelly as ever dominated the air, Armanis wizardry was on show. But again few shots on goal to trouble the mexcian number 1 at the other end. Celtic were instead shocked on several occasions by the fast counterattacking of the mystery XI, and almost paid the price several times, thankfully Julein had been a big find and produced a performance similar to Ravellis showstoper the week before and pulled off several "TV SAVE DAN" number that TV SAVE DAN would have been proud of. Perhaps yet another contender for the number 1 jersey this year?.......The lads at the back however tightened up and slowly began pushing the line further up the field to keep the ball deeper in the opposition half. The whistle blew for half time and the boys returned to the side for some well earned water. It was decided a new reshuffle was needed ..if we were gonna win this one..were gonna have to win it on fitness. again lads were moved around Fraek moved up top Fonz played behind him, and Nemo found himself right wing..Brendan who played yet another i,pressive match took a breather. ANd off they went again.....As the 60 minute mark approached fitness levels kicked in and the lads took over ..midfield were all shouting "SQUARES AND TRIANGLES" and they pulled off perhaps the best footballing performance so far this season Andreas Alvarson pulling the strings in the middle in a similar way to Inietsa basically took control of the game. Andreas sprayed the ball backward , forward sideward, upward downward every-way-ward and the team clicked like never before playing the ball around in one and two touches with ease. The mystery team seemed to tire of chasing ghosts and finally the breakthrough came , Adrian Mellericks first outing produced his first goal, so no monkeys in his back for a while. the goal however was a great goal after some great midfield build up including roddie and kelly and larsson and alvarsson and armani and larsson and roddie and the kelly and then roddie and then larsson and then kelly and the n larsson and then kely and then larsson.....and finally adrian who slotted home ....Yee fuckin Ha !! said the lads...unfortunately the opposiotion dazed by the speedy passing were too confused to react..A sigh and deep breath came from the tree people as they accepted the defeat after their hard earned work.Alvin the terminator who made his official debut was bullying the Ents number 8 and made an immense start after only 20 minutes impressed more than enough to scare a few of the present centreback of their positions. Alvin and Julein both played so well that they never swapped at half time like they agreed instead both were happy to keep their spots. It was only a matter of time before the second goal came this time Gothenburg Celtics very own tall guy headed home AGAIN to secure the points. Finallly a 3 pointer and a great run out. A very positive game that took 60 minutes to score in produced more evidence of the competition for positions in the squad, and perhaps the best "SQUARES AND TRIANLGES" played by the tic in many many games. The passing really was OUTSTANDING for spells.
Now lets combine all of our preseason training and use it in our first league game!! Well done Guys a great Team Performance and some great passing a pleasure to watch from the side !! Lets be sure to see plenty more of that, It looks like were very good at it when the balls on the floor !!
