Players profile - by A.Millerick
Here is a presentation of the squad, done by our correspondent, in live from Göteborg - Sweden
Central midfielders :
SIMON LARSSON – A former Sweden Under-16 international, who gave up a football career, to pursue playing football with a bunch of French, British and Irish losers, Larsson has some of the quickest feet you’ll see in the league. The central midfielder is a key player for the Celts, and when he’s not playing, the Green and Whites certainly miss his passion and talent. Although Larsson’s frustrations often boil over towards the referee, it’s hard to find too many faults with Si’s game. The league’s statistics from last year showed no other player did more turns and swivels over the course of the season than Si.
KHALID EL OURADI – Voted African Young Player of the Year last year, the Moroccan Messi is a skillful and creative ball player. Although often used in the centre of midfield, Khalid can also play in the wide midfield positions. Khalid is a respected member of the side, mainly owing to the fact that he often turns up at matches straight from 24 hour shifts at work, looking glazed and on another planet. Despite his hazardous work timetable, El Ouradi still puts in some good shifts on the pitch. Manager Garrett was wise to tie the Morrocan to a new three year deal last season, but now the onus will be on Khalid to take his game to the next level next season.
ADRIAN KELLY – Another member of the Irish contingent, ‘Aido’ is a fierce competitor and good midfielder. When not on the number 5 tram looking very miserable, Kelly is a very important part of the Gothenburg Celtic side. His physicality, presence and aerial prowess are clearly missed when the former Celtic schoolboy isn’t around. Aido loves a tackle, but also weighs in with his fair share of goals at the other end of the park – often with the use of his head. If you deliver it on his head from a free kick or corner, Kelly will find the target, as he did on numerous occasions last season. Kelly will again be an important part of the GC squad next season.
