Players profile - by A.Millerick
Here is a presentation of the squad, done by our correspondent, in live from Göteborg - Sweden
Center-backs :
ANDREAS ALVARSSON – In his day Alvarsson was compared to German legend Franz Beckenbaur, mainly because of his ball-striking exploits and calmness on the ball. Now in the twilight years of his career, Andreas is still a force in the league, and a very good footballer. One of the local lads, who works as a bootlegger shipping booze to Sweden from all parts of the world, Andreas is often seen doing charity work and visiting children’s hospitals. Alvarsson can play at the heart of defence or in the holding role. Although not blessed with pace, his technical prowess more than makes up for this. You’ll rarely see Alvarsson score anything other than spectacular goals.
SEBASTIEN GUITTON – Signed from Nantes back in 2009, big Seb has become a key part of the Gothenburg Celtic machine. A strong, solid centre half, Seb was often the last line of defence for the Green and Whites last season. Despite being linked with a move to Fulham and the Premier League, Seb has distanced himself from the transfer speculation, and according to Le Equipe, the big man wants a new contract at GC. Manager Garrett would be wise to meet with Guitton as soon as possible. Sean won’t have to worry about agents and all that nonsense though, as Seb is an old school football man, who looks after his own affairs and refuses to employ an agent. Another good season for Seb next year could see him justify his tag as Gothenburg Celtic’s very own Laurent Blanc.
ALVIN PERSSON – ‘The Alivanator’ is an immense man. Collide with Alvin and you’ll wake up in hospital and never do it again. The big defender is a good, solid player, who performed well in the green and white jersey last season. Although he wasn’t available as much as Garrett would like, Persson always performed well when called upon. Rumour has it newly trained pilot Robin Rosengren will use Alvin as security when he becomes a pilot. According to long-time friend Rosengren: ‘I’ll put Alvin in front of the cockpit door – that way nobody will ever get through.’
ERIC BORNHAMMER – Even in a country full of Blondes, Eric is perhaps one of the blondest footballers to ever grace the Heden pitches. However, when playing Eric certainly doesn’t play like a bimbo – the versatile defender/ midfielder is a good all-round footballer. Eric has a good engine that allows him to cover a lot of ground, and isn’t afraid of a good tackle. Garrett and the other GC management will be hoping Eric will be available next season, as there’s certainly room for his talents in the Gothenburg Celtic starting line-up.
PATRICK GILDEA – One of the more fiery members of the GC truppen, Gildea is a good footballer who we hope will be available more next season. Work commitments etc. limited his appearances last season, but when he played, he always performed well. Another man who can strike a good ball, let’s hope we saw more of the man next season.
